I’m feeling quite relaxed about the lead up to WEG and selection. Arctic Soul (Spike) who has been long listed for WEG in September in America, has been the most wonderful horse for me and his owners, he owes us absolutely nothing. He has finished in the top 10 of his last 6 3 day events which include Badminton, Burghley and the European championships. He is an exceptional horse and so consistent. I don’t feel there is anything else We can do. I am with the attitude what will be will be and whether we go to Burghley or WEG we will be ready to be as competitive as we can be.
He is feeling on top form, he ran beautifully in the Advanced at Aston Le Walls, rode through the 4star WEG test scored a 27.8 and jumped an impeccable double clear. After this we have decided after much thought and heart ache not to run him at Gatcombe and to save him. We feel he knows his job feels on brilliant form and doesn’t need to practice XC!
We have had a few dressage lessons at home with Ian Woodhead and just feeling more confident in the phase. Everyone knows this is his most tricky bit and it’s all about him being confident and happy. We will go showjumping a few times locally on surfaces while the ground is hard. Being a full TB Spike is quite easy to get fit in the traditional way and uses Gary Moore’s gallops once every 5th day.
If I get selected I will be very happy, excited and honoured to be part of a fantastic British team. It’s incredibly competitive and there are so many world class combinations. Watch this space!!
